2013 Lineup

The following acts performed at AURA 4 on February 15th-17th, 2013:

Papadosio (two sets) - Website | Facebook
The information age has a sound. Revolutionary technology meets a revolutionary message in Papadosio. Melding progressive rock with psychedelia, folk with electronica, and dance music with jam, the quintet has amassed a dedicated following of thousands of likeminded individuals sewing the seeds of unity and spreading the sounds of exultation. Singer-songwriter Anthony Thogmartin’s visionary lyrics, eclectic production, and signature guitar work are anchored by the rock solid battery of drummer Mike Healy and bassist Rob McConnell. The quintet is rounded out by brothers Billy and Sam Brouse, whose virtuosic two-headed keyboard, synth, and programming attack give the band its unmistakable complexity and intensity.

Conspirator (two sets)
Conspirator is Disco Biscuits’ staples Marc Brownstein, Aron Magner & guitarist Chris Michetti (RAQ). Conspirator is currently on a national tour playing all cities throughout the country. Conspirator features a rotating cast of first-class drummers including KJ SAWKA, Adam Deitch, Darren Shearer, Mike Greenfield, and Lane Shaw.

Perpetual Groove (two sets)
Perpetual Groove has grown quickly into a formidable international touring organization. Now based in Athens, GA, the band continues to ride an unending wave of momentum buoyed by an enthusiastic fan base and international critical acclaim. PGroove's music has evolved into a genre-bending, highly original sound that touches upon jazz-rock, neo-psychedelia, R&B, trance electronica, progressive rock, and anthemic arena rock. The addition of an intense, retina burning, intelligent light show creates an atmosphere unlike any other, assuring fans they'll get a highly polished, yet different show each night.

Break Science
What separates Break Science from the other bands in 2011's burgeoning electronic scene? Try over 30 years combined experience in music, performing with and producing many of today's hottest artists and living legends. Adam Deitch and Borahm Lee have worked with premier artists- everyone from Wyclef Jean and the Fugees, Raekwon and GZA of the Wu Tang Clan, to reggae/dub legend Lee Scratch Perry and Miles Davis collaborator John Scofield. Raised in the cultural hotbed of New York City, Deitch and Lee fuse the city's rich musical legacy- jazz, funk, soul, with a deep-rooted connection to its hip-hop heritage to create their own take on modern electronic music. Armed with Deitch's thunderous breakbeat style on the drums and Lee's seasoned trip-hop/dub aesthetic on keyboards and laptop, their instrumental styles are perfectly interwoven within their beautiful, banging and extremely danceable tracks. This sound is bound to make a major mark on the modern musical landscape.

The Heavy Pets (two sets)
The Heavy Pets (THP) are an American rock band who blend rhythm and blues, jazz-funk, nu-disco and reggae fusion. Called “a living, breathing, force of nature” by Relix, THP are known for powerhouse live performances and infectious danceable songs with thought-provoking lyrics. The group became an instant Sirius radio sensation in 2007 with the release of their double-disc debut album, Whale, driven by hit tracks “Operation of Flight” and “Sleep.” First embraced by the jam scene for their raw talent, the cross-over sound that is showcased on their self-titled album, which was dubbed a “Top 10 Album of 2010” by The Huffington Post, propelled them into the periphery of mainstream music.

Dopapod (two sets)
Dopapod exists at the crossroads of full throttle intensity, deep pocket groove, intricate technicality, and limitless experimentation. With no regard towards towards stylistic boundaries, the sound that emerges from the quartet both live and in the studio is as varied and diverse as the many influences that they adapt from. Their approach and commitment to complementing a distinct genre bending sound to top-notch musicianship has set them apart from many of their contemporaries and keeps music lovers eagerly returning to shows.

RAQ
Self-described as high performance rock n roll, RAQ has been going strong since its 2001 inception. With their unique sound, featuring complex song structure coupled with quirky-yet-accessible lyrics and a healthy dose of full-band improvisation, RAQ delivers a strong presence to their allegiant fans nationwide.

Kung Fu (two sets)
Proud to be firmly installed in 2012's new-funk movement, KUNG FU is quickly popularizing their unique sonic contribution, blurring the line between intense electro-fusion, and blistering dance arrangements. Making fusion music "cool" again, the band draws on influences such as early Headhunters and Weather Report, and merges those ideas with a contemporary EDM informed sensibility. Imagine 70's funk-fusion meets a modern dance party!

The Lee Boys
The Lee Boys are one of America’s finest African-American sacred steel ensembles. This family group consists of three brothers, Alvin Lee (guitar), Derrick Lee and Keith Lee (vocals) along with their three nephews, Roosevelt Collier (pedal steel guitar), Alvin Cordy Jr. (7-string bass) and Earl Walker (drums). Each member began making music at the ages of 7 and 8 in the House of God church they attended in Perrine, FL. Here they underwent a rigorous course of training in a variety of musical instruments, including lap and pedal steel guitars. Born and raised in Miami, each of The Lee Boys grew up in the church where their father and grandfather, Rev. Robert E. Lee, was the pastor and a steel player himself.

Greenhouse Lounge
Greenhouse Lounge is an electronic musical trio that combines the computer based production of a DJ, accompanied by rock guitar leads, heavy synthesized bass and live drums. They are adept at merging these rumbling dub basslines with pumping electronica beats, breakbeat dynamics and staggering sample manipulation. Their music can be described as euphoric; a hypnotic based sound; tightly woven sonic soundscapes that are rich in melody and texture.

DrFameus
DrFameus is an electronic music project created by the versatile drummer, Allen Aucoin. Allen explores many realms with DrFameus ranging from breakbeats to drum 'n' bass to dubstep to techno/house.

Yo Mama's Big Fat Booty Band
Deeply rooted in Funk and fully committed to the ongoing evolution of the genre, Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band has a sound that is unique yet has the power and soul to create lasting melodies and seismic rhythms. The group has been together for a full decade, performing well over 150 shows and completing three to four national tours each year.

Consider The Source (two sets)
Three Musicians converging on an epic plateau of sound and reflex. Three conscious minds communicating on sub-conscious levels. New York City's CONSIDER THE SOURCE is the fourth voice, produced when the trio's three distinct personalities combine forces to share their inner music freely with each other. Toting the loaded description Sci-Fi Middle Eastern Funk, their sound is a melting pot of Middle Eastern scales, psychedelic jams, and a hard rocking rhythm section.

Stokeswood
Atlanta-based, Low-Endie Rock band, Stokeswood, was formed by lead vocalist Adam Patterson and electric guitarist, Mark Godwin. The five-piece also comprises drummer Jon Joiner, keyboardist Michael Roman and bass player/producer Justin Mullinix. Stokeswood's independently released debut album, "Carassia" (2009), is like a sonic excursion between the lines of a poet's story-telling prowess. Stokeswood's sophomore album, “In the Field of the Vibrations” (2011), showcases a vocal-centric aesthetic and an array of synthesizers and guitars that are illuminated by infectious dance beats. The evolution from acoustic to electronic was a natural progression during the recording process. Stokeswood is currently and constantly touring the East Coast.

Lingo
Lingo is different. This is a band with their own secret language, as their name would indicate. There are familiar components, to be sure—ripping guitar solos that evoke the Allman Brothers, African and Latin grooves, jazz and funk, soulful vocals, thoughtful lyrics. Still, the result is unlike anything else out there, and if you open your ears wide enough, you can tell Lingo has something to say.

The Main Squeeze
The Main Squeeze is a raging funk experience born within the thriving live music scene of Bloomington, Indiana. Since coming together in late 2009 The Squeeze have managed to establish a unique sound and identity in a short period of time. Their first studio offering entitled “First Drops,” is a seven song EP released in early 2011 which showcases the broad range of styles and influences that each member brings to the table; from rock to jazz, funk to R&B, and hip-hop to electro.

Newton Crosby
Combining influences from electronica, funk and jazz, this quintet from New Jersey has been taking on the Northeast jamband scene since 2009. Newton Crosby has shared the stage with moe., Umphrey's McGee, Conspirator, Jen Hartswick, Wyllys and The New York Hustler Ensemble, Speakerbot and The Heavy Pets. Newton Crosby makes it a point to keep the music at high energy and the crowd dancing throughout the show.

The McLovins
The McLovins specialize in the creation of dynamic and improvised sound, influenced by the members' disparate and eclectic musical influences. The band currently includes Jason Ott, Jake Huffman, Justin Berger and Atticus Kelly. The Mclovins embrace simultaneous and intricate improvisation with a more versatile front line in which all members are singing in four-part harmony, writing lyrics & music, as well as expounding on one another's musical ideas. Set list segues and firey improvisations are a staple of the band's performances, keeping our audience always guessing what's coming next and wanting more! In the short time that they have been together they have been invited to performed at an impressive number of well established and new music festivals. These guys are constantly writing and practing music, finding their way to a foundation of a long term career, of bringing music to their 11,000+ fans.
